Doriana Mandrelli Fuksas was born in Rome, where she graduated in Modern and Contemporary Architectural History at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1979. She also earned a degree in Architecture from the École Spéciale d'Architecture in Paris.
She curated four "Special Projects" for the 7th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice - Less Aesthetics, More Ethics in 2000: Jean Prouvé, Jean Maneval, the Pavilion of Peace and Spaces Architecture, and the Contemporary Art section.
Doriana O. Mandrelli has worked with Massimiliano Fuksas since 1985 and since 1997 has been the managing director of Fuksas Design. In 2002 she was awarded the title of Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Republic. In 2013 she was decorated Commandeur de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. From 1 January 2020, she has held the title of Chevalier de l'Ordre de la Légion d'Honneur Française.
Massimiliano Fuksas, of Lithuanian origin, was born in Rome in 1944. He graduated in Architecture from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1969. Since the 1980s he has been one of the leading figures on the contemporary architectural scene.
From 1998 to 2000 he directed the 7th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice. In 1999 he received the Grand Prix National d'Architecture Française. In 2002 he received the AIA Honorary Fellowship from the American Institute of Architects in Washington D.C. In 2006 he was awarded the title of Knight Grand Cross of the Italian Republic. In 2010 he was decorated with the Légion d'Honneur by the President of the French Republic.
He has been a Visiting Professor at several universities, including Columbia University in New York, the École Spéciale d'Architecture in Paris, the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna and the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart. For some time he has devoted particular attention to the study of urban problems in large metropolitan areas.
